Any recommendations for software to do photo manips? I'm not really tech savvy, but this is giving me reason to learn some stuff.

Try GIMP. It's a lot like Photoshop, but it's free. After you install it, google for GIMP tutorials, and you can learn a lot very quickly.

I agree on the GIMP program for cost effectiveness and function, but I also recommend Paint Shop Pro. And of course, a lot of patience. :)

I use Paintshop Pro to do my photoshops, with occasionally a bit of Photoshop for special effects. It's mostly just skill and patience.
